Scout centre "Crab stream" - Fužine

"school in nature"

CHILDREN FACILITIES IN NATURE

Scout centre Fužine is our own property, a 10.000 sq. m. land lot with a hut on it, 2km away from the town of Fužine. We purchased it in 1960 and have turned it into a scouts camping site, the only one of its kind in the country.

Since 1989, over 10 years of hard and dedicated individual volunteer work from our older and younger members was put into building the camp site. The adaptation and improvement of our Scout centre facilities has been going on continuously ever since.

During the 4 years of Croatia war for independece, this region was among the few peaceful areas untouched by war destructions. Therefore in 1993 we joined the "Sun Rise City" project conducting activities for resocialisation and healing of the war traumas for children who have lost their parents and suffered themselves. We also hosted an unique programme for children from Bosnia in 1995 and 1996. Our dedication to related humanitary and social projects resulted in being open to all kinds of cooperation for specialized children outdoors activities.

Notably, we joined the social programme &acuteSplit - the Healthy City´, sponsored by the Social Care City office of Split, arranging vacation activities for children in need. We&acutere welcoming any Scout group willing to participate in this programme.

Accomodation

Scout centre Fužine has the following accomodation features:

  • 25 beds in the lodge (2 rooms + small chamber for the leader)
  • another small house with 2 rooms (2+2 beds) - usually for the elder leaders,
  • 10 newly built attractive wooden shacks with 2 beds each
  • about 60 places for the scouts under the tents
  • a big summer kitchen and dining room with all facilities
  • 6 toilets
  • 4 showers with hot water

We also stock all neccesary camping equipment: large and small tents, cooking utensils, sponges, beds, blankets, sheets, as well as generous amount of pioneering wood.

There is also a large playground suitable for basketball, walleyball and small soccer.

Many didactical aids for courses, seminars and workshops are also available.

Geographical features

The Scout Centre is situated in the beautiful mountaneous district of Gorski Kotar, 2 km away from the small town Fuzine. At an altitude of about 700 m a.s.l., the Centre is surrounded with thick forests and beautiful mountain lakes.

A small stream flows through the Centre toward Lake Bayer, which is just in front of the Centre. Another lake Lepenica is 300m further to the west. 20 minutes of walking by the lakeside takes you downtown to Fuzine, where you can find post-office, doctor, pharmacy, shops, church and restaurants.

Fuzine can be reached either by railway, or by turning at the clearly marked outlet from Zagreb - Rijeka highway

Natural landmarks

On the other side of the lake Bayer there is an accesible cave "Vrelo". Within 1,5 hours of walk from the Scout Center there is another lake - Omladinsko jezero near the Lokve place, with even bigger cave "Lokvarka".

In this area visitors can also enjoy the large National Park "Risnjak", with many mountain houses all over the region. 40 minutes away with the train there is a small town Skrad with the famous Nature park "Zeleni vir". When in this region, don&acutet miss yet another beautiful nature park - "Kamacnik", near the Vrbovsko town.

With so many interesting hiking and touring places, we have established the National scout track around Fužine.
